Wind Walkers Baltimore Concert reviews
Good, not great
The Winstar venue is NOT a ballroom. It is one of those event center/theaters where all the walls open to make a large venue of something like 4,000 seats. Seating is in chairs that hook together into a row, but surprisingly comfortable with plenty of leg room. The floor is flat with some risers only at the very back of the room, so the view is pretty much always obstructed by the people in front of you. Unfortunately the sound system was not great, which is particularly annoying when listening to an artist of Humming House caliber.
I feel cheated after reading some other reviews that she chose Wind Walkers for her opening act. They seemed to not have a style or sound of their own and were just very boring to listen to. They are from Nashville and let me put it this way. If they were playing a free show in one of the bars along Broadway, I would not hesitate to walk across the street to check for something better. If they are the opening band, I would recommend just coming in an hour late to not have to sit through their set.
Wind Walkers finally came on about 9:15 and played for less than 2 hours. She gave a good show, but it really suffered from the quality of the sound system and the venue overall. She did a rendition of Nancy Sinatra's "Boots" which gave the band a chance to strut their musical talents a bit, something you normally expect in the second half of a show. They took a bow and left to everyone's astonishment. We stuck around expecting an encore. Surely, no one would close a show with such a lame song, but they never came back out.
I came with high expectations and left feeling cheated. I'd give Humming House another shot, but never again at the Winstar.
